If you enjoy coming up with solutions to real problems, planning and organising practical projects of varying sizes and like working outdoors, then exploring a career in either the Agriculture or Horticulture industries may be for you. Both industries are hands-on, practical, and just calling out for enthusiastic, hardworking individuals who want to work in a range of diverse and rapidly changing environments.

The Tasmanian Seafood Industry Council will give you a full overview of the industry. Learn about the diverse range of careers, from marketing, to logistics, to dive operations, to hatcheries….. the possibilities are endless. Students will be able to gauge their interest via interactive games and meaningful chats with industry.
Salmon
Salmon Aquaculture is the largest employer of the Tasmanian seafood industry, with over 5,000 jobs across the state. The sector is worth $651 million dollars and is considered one of the largest growth areas in Tasmania. The industry provides exciting opportunities for work, across a wide range of careers. Students will talk with salmon company representatives and hear about what it’s really like on the job.

Hear about the new Associate Degree in Applied Science (Aquaculture). This degree has been developed in response to industry demand and is specifically designed to equip graduates with work-ready skills.
School of Architecture & Design
Handbuilt Digital - explore relationships between people, objects and spaces, work at different scales to construct a piece of furniture or a building, and then use photogrammetry to record your creations and reconstruct them as unique 3D digital models. In response to a brief, students will explore relationships between people, objects and spaces and work at different scales to construct a piece of furniture or a building from timber blocks. Photogrammetry will then be used to record their physical creations and reconstruct them as unique 3D digital models that can be manipulated on screen before being laser cut or 3D-printed using Computer Numerically Controlled (CNC) equipment. Students will have the opportunity to visit the School of Architecture & Design at Inveresk Campus at a later date to collect their CNC projects. Please bring a mobile phone to the workshop if you have one.

Working in the automotive industry offers exciting career opportunities for people who can meet the demands of changing technologies and enjoy practical activities and problem solving!
This session will explore what it is like to be a modern day mechanic. Come along and get a great introduction to the automotive service and repair industry, we will be taking you around the car showing you some of the cars systems and how they work or maybe you are more keen to understand what is under the bonnet? We will give you the opportunity to touch and feel some components and also use some basic hand tools.

Are you creative? Do you like working with people? A career in hairdressing combines the best of both worlds! Hairdressing is all about creativity, practical skills and techniques as well as customer service.
You will have the opportunity to work on mannequin heads, learning braiding techniques from TasTAFE hairdressing teachers, who all have extensive experience in the industry. The session will include demonstrations from teachers and the opportunity for participants to create their own braiding styles working on their own individual mannequin head.

If you are creative and enjoy designing and making things with different materials using a variety of techniques, the creative industries area may be just the area of study for you!
In this session you will design wearable art such as, garments, headwear, shoulder pieces, footwear using scraps of fabrics, leather, metals, found objects and recycled items around a 'Steampunk" theme. There is also an opportunity to try mono-printing onto paper and fabric.

If we said engineers change the world all the time – would you like to find out more?
Come along and try our engineering challenge. In small teams, we will build a bridge out of some unusual materials and apply lots of engineering skills to the task – skills you probably didn’t know you had!
We will test the strength of your bridge with the assistance of the TasTafe Engineering teachers and talk about how a career in engineering can provide men and women with a world of opportunities.

A forest harvesting experience using the latest simulator technology. You are in the seat of a $700,000 machine cutting down trees on a plantaton.
Through a series of simulated work experiences and actual machine simulators, we introduce a wide variety of people to an industry that is not universally understood. There are as many as 106 different pathways linked by 7 different sectors of our industry. From Silviculture, Forest Establishment and Management, Harvest, Haulage, Saw milling, Processing, Business Management, Frame and Truss and Retail, we can promote and direct interested students and job seekers to focused training programs and higher education options for whatever pathway they choose.

Health Education & Research Centre (HERC) A fun activity to engage students and give them a small taste of what Nursing might be like as a career choice. NDS The disability sector is one of the fastest growing employers in Tasmania. One in four Tasmanian’s identify as dealing with a disability (148,000 people), the largest per capita in the country. Tasmania has the largest number of people dealing with Autism and Cerebral Palsy. Since the introduction of the NDIS, the growth in disability services has been unprecedented. The need for Support Workers, Business Development Managers, ICT professionals and Marketing professionals will create amazing opportunities within the sector. There are a number of different pathways in the disability industry which will provide a great career path but also the ability to contribute to helping people with a disability live full and inclusive lives. Will Kestin, the State Manager for National Disability Services will present on the opportunities throughout the sector and challenge your perceptions on what a career in disability services looks like. |

So if you want a job that keeps our community safe and will literally never dry up, you need to consider becoming a plumber! Besides being one of the highest paying trades there is so much variety and work is literally overflowing. Come along and explore plumbing as a career, you’ll also do some hand-on activities like threading and joining copper pipe together.
